.....ADVANCED IMAGING BONE DENSITOMERY

Advanced Imaging of Gadsden

Advanced Imaging offers the most accurate, lowest dose machine in the area. Our Hologic Discovery QDR Series Bone Densitometer, combines Bone Mineral Density (BMD) measurement and vertebral fracture assessment. These are the two most definitive factors associated bone fracture risk due to Osteoporosis.

The Hologic Discovery has High Definition Instant Vertebral Assessment (IVA-HD) which allows you to identify spine fractures with one rapid, low dose, single energy image at double the resolution of previously available techniques.

  • Single Sweep Scanning enables superior image quality.
  • Fastest available (typical exam time approximately 70 seconds).
  • Most accurate (+ 0.5% - vs. older machines @ + 3%).
  • Lowest x-ray dose (1/100th the dose of older machines).
  • Capable of whole body fat content and peri-prosthetic lucency/ loosening evaluation.

What is a Bone Densitometry Exam?
Bone Densitometry or Bone Density or DEXA Scan (Dual Energy X-ray absorptiometry), is a low dose x-ray that checks for bone thinning or mineral loss. The hip, spine, hand or foot are the areas x-rayed. The most accurate results are found when the hip or spine are tested.

More accurate testing allows not only determination of degree of bone density loss, but the capability of comparing density to others in your age, sex, and race matched cohort group to determine relative density and future risk. In other words, now you can tell not just whether "the wood is already rotten" but predict increased risk and intervene ahead of time to prevent the process in the first place. (Just like treating your deck with a wood preservative).
